Skiing

Big Sky Resort was founded by Chet Huntley, the famous newscaster, back in the 60's.  It boasts some of the best ski terrain in North America and has grown, together with it's neighboring ski resort Moonlight Basin, to now offer the largest acreage of any resort in the United States.  With 22 lifts, a gondola and over 150 marked trails, Big Sky/Moonlight Basin on Lone Mountain can challenge any skier from novice to cliff jumper with more terrain, more powder and more fun than you can ski in a full week. The new Pinnacles Lodge at the top of The Ramcharger High Speed Quad Chair features white linen dining and entertainment as well as an outdoor patio with BBQ and bar. The mountain averages over 400 inches of Montana powder per season and 2008 was hit with a whopping 760+ inches of pure white from heaven! Cadillac cruisers or mad cliff bombers will all find their space at Big Sky.  Lone Mountain is 11,116 feet high at the summit, 7500 feet at the base for a vertical drop of 4,350 feet with over 3,812 acres and 85 miles of runs. For the novice skier the mountain offers 14% beginner runs, and 28% intermediate which leaves 40% for advanced and 20% for expert skiers.  The longest run is over 6 miles long and there are virtually no lift lines anywhere on the mountain 95% of the time.

Snowmobiling

Canyon Adventures Outfitters, a short ten minutes away, offers year round rentals of either snowmobiles or ATV's depending on the season.  The entrance to the wide open high country of Buck's Ridge, part of the Gallatin National Forest, for both snowmobiling and ATV' trail riding is just minutes away.

Sledding

Obviously, sledding and tubing can be found anywhere there is a slope with snow and we have plenty of both.  The difference at Mountain Meadows is the run starts 5 feet off the front porch and goes for about a half mile depending on your desire to climb back up! The lodge offers about a dozen sleds, toboggans, and saucers enough to wear out all of the kids and most of the teenagers without leaving the
property.

Horse Drawn Sleigh

Mountain Meadows mile long driveway serves as the perfect loop for Jake's Corral to operate his famous winter sleigh rides. The sleigh is drawn by Jake's matched Belgian Draft Horses and can pull a sleigh full of about ten people on a wintery ride which begins at your porch step and ends at our fireplace! Arrangements must be made at least 24 hours ahead with Jake's Corral.
